Hey Chat Pack,

I hear you’re having amazing DM conversations - but the moment you need to move it to a call, you freeze up?!

The good news? There’s actually a super simple formula to know exactly when (and how!) to naturally transition from casual DMs into booked sales calls.

Grab my free DM Conversation Starter Kit and use this simple 3-sentence script to seamlessly book your next client - right from your DMs.

THE buzz of conversation filled the hotel ballroom as Alex checked her watch for the 4th time in 15 minutes. Her cheeks ached from the polite smile she'd been maintaining while the man across from her - Todd or Tom, she'd already forgotten - continued his seemingly endless monologue.

"...and that's when I realized passive income through digital courses was just the beginning. You see, most entrepreneurs don't understand the ecosystem approach to scaling," he continued, gesturing with his wine glass, oblivious to Alex's shifting weight and darting eyes.

She'd asked him a simple question - "What kind of work do you do?" - 23 minutes ago. She knew because she'd glanced at her watch the moment the floodgates opened.

"The real magic happens when you layer in the masterminds on top of the course structure," he said, leaning closer. "Let me walk you through our six-tier ascension model..."

Alex nodded mechanically while scanning the room for a rescue. Any rescue.

When salvation finally came in the form of a server offering fresh drinks, Alex seized the moment, muttering something about connecting with someone "over there." She escaped, her half-full wine glass providing the perfect prop for her exit.

Later that night, curled up on her couch in sweatpants, Alex scrolled through her Instagram, responding to direct messages from potential clients. She'd been at it for over an hour, writing detailed, thoughtful responses to each inquiry.

As she finished a particularly comprehensive five-paragraph response about her coaching methodology, something made her pause before hitting send.

She scrolled back through her message, then up to see the simple question that had prompted it: "How do you help clients with engagement?"

A cold realization washed over her. Her response looked eerily similar to Todd-or-Tom's networking monologue… well-intentioned, but exhausting.

With a horrified laugh, Alex deleted the entire message. "Oh god," she whispered to her empty living room. "I'm the networking nightmare guy."

The Endless Conversation

After reviewing dozens of her DM conversations, Alex identified a clear pattern. When potential clients expressed interest or asked questions, her responses often:

  • Spanned 4-5 long paragraphs

  • Covered multiple topics and angles

  • Provided excessive background information

  • Answered questions no one had yet asked

And the results were consistent… potential clients either didn't respond at all or replied with short, disengaged answers. Conversations that could have led to discovery calls instead fizzled into silence.

What was even more frustrating was seeing competitors with less experience booking calls through DMs while her more detailed, value-packed messages went nowhere.

The Brief Exchange

After working with a communication coach, Alex discovered a counterintuitive truth: in DMs, less is actually more. By dramatically condensing her responses using my ‘Precision Connection Framework’ to focus on a single, powerful connection point, her engagement rates tripled.

The Precision Connection Framework

Step 1: Pick Just ONE Thing to Connect On

Instead of addressing everything the person said or trying to provide comprehensive information, choose the single most relevant point that will create an immediate "I get you" moment.

Why this works: When you try to cover too many points, people get overwhelmed and don't respond. One clear connection point is easy to process and respond to.

Step 2: Make It About Shared Experience, Not Just Facts

Frame your connection point as something you've experienced or seen too, rather than just sharing information. Say "I've struggled with that exact same challenge" instead of "Here's what you should do about that challenge."

Why this works: People connect with people, not information. When you share a similar experience rather than just advice, they see you as a peer who understands them, not just an expert talking at them.

Step 3: End With a Question That's Easy to Answer

Finish your brief message with a simple question that naturally flows from your connection point and is super easy to respond to.

Why this works: Questions create natural conversation openings, but only if they're easy to answer. Complex questions often get put off or ignored entirely in DMs.

Step 4: Keep It Short - 2-3 Sentences MAX

No matter how much valuable information you could provide, limit your entire response to 2-3 short sentences. This creates a quick-value hit that's easy to consume.

Why this works: DMs are typically read on mobile, often while people are doing other things. Short messages get read and responded to immediately; long ones get saved for "later" (which often means never).

This forced simplicity transformed her DM conversations from one-sided information dumps into engaging exchanges that naturally progressed toward sales calls.

Making Your Point

Here's how to implement this framework immediately:

BEFORE:

Potential client:

"I'm struggling to convert followers into clients"

You:

"I completely understand that challenge! Converting followers to clients requires a multi-faceted approach including content strategy, engagement tactics, proper positioning, and effective call-to-actions. Many coaches focus too much on growing their audience rather than nurturing the followers they already have. I've developed a comprehensive system for my clients that addresses each stage of the follower-to-client journey, including creating magnetic content, designing strategic engagement sequences, implementing conversion triggers, and developing authentic relationship-building practices. Would you like to hear more about how this might work for your business?"

AFTER:

Potential client:

"I'm struggling to convert followers into clients"

You:

"Most coaches feel exactly like you… working hard to grow an audience that admires your content… but doesn't take the next step. What have you tried so far to bridge that gap?"

Notice how the second response:

  • Makes a single, powerful connection point

  • Creates immediate relatability

  • Naturally invites further conversation

  • Takes less than 15 seconds to read

Build Your Connection Point Library (Do This Today)

What you'll need:

  • Notes app or document

  • Your 5 most common client questions

  • 20 minutes of uninterrupted time

Steps:

  1. Identify your FAQs (5 min)
List the 5 most common initial messages you receive from potential clients. These might include:

    • "I'm struggling to convert followers into clients"

    • "How do I create content that stands out?"

    • "I feel like I'm posting but not seeing results"

    • "How much do you charge for coaching?"

    • "I'm not sure if I'm ready for coaching yet"

  2. Create connection templates (10 min)
For each question, create a brief response template that:

    • Makes ONE connection point

    • Shares a related experience or insight (not just advice)

    • Ends with an easy question

    • Stays under 3 sentences total

  3. Apply the formula (5 min)
Test your templates against these criteria:

    • Could someone read and understand it in under 15 seconds?

    • Does it avoid overwhelming with multiple points?

    • Is it focused on relatability rather than expertise?

    • Does it end with a question requiring minimal typing to answer?

Example:

For the client question/statement:

"I'm struggling with inconsistent content creation"

Poor connection point:

"Content creation challenges are common! You need to build systems, create content buckets, develop a content calendar, batch your work, and make sure you're addressing your audience's pain points effectively."

Strong connection point:

"That inconsistent content struggle was exactly my biggest hurdle last year - I'd go from posting daily to disappearing for weeks. What specific part trips you up the most… coming up with ideas, finding time to create, something else?"

This exercise helps you build a library of brief responses that create real connection, instead of overwhelming your prospects with information.

The Graceful Exit

A month after implementing this approach, Alex found herself at another networking event. Unlike the previous one, this gathering was at a sun-filled rooftop bar with a view of the city skyline. When a well-dressed woman with a tech company lanyard asked about her business, Alex took a deep breath.

Instead of launching into her usual comprehensive explanation, she met the woman's eyes and said simply:

"I help new entrepreneurs scale to consistent $10K months through my 'Aligned Entrepreneur' program."

She braced herself for that awkward moment when people realize you've stopped talking too soon. But instead, the woman's eyebrows raised with genuine interest.

"That's actually exactly what my sister needs," she said, pulling out her phone. "She's been stuck at around $5K for months. How do you approach that?"

As Alex walked to her car after the event, her phone buzzed. Five new DM responses had come in… all from previous conversations where she'd applied her new brevity-based approach. And each one was moving the relationship forward.

She smiled at the irony… by her saying less, prospects actually started saying more.

Sometimes the most valuable thing we can offer isn't more information, but the right information, delivered with precision and clarity.
