Subscribe To Scale Stories Into Revenue

It was 7:30 a.m. on a Monday, and I already felt defeated.

The office was quiet except for the hum of the coffee maker in the breakroom, but my inbox was anything but peaceful. Emails and texts poured in from team members who had missed yet another training session. Some claimed they didn’t know it was happening. Others blamed me for not communicating clearly.

I stared at my screen, biting back frustration. I’d sent the training details weeks ago. I even texted a reminder the day before! What more could I do?

I was managing a team with a mix of fresh grads, mid-career professionals, and seasoned veterans. Texting was my go-to method for sharing updates—fast, easy, and (I thought) foolproof. Yet week after week, the same problems cropped up: deadlines missed, events skipped, and half the team acting like my messages had vanished into thin air.

At first, I blamed them. Were they just not paying attention? Did they not care?

Then, one conversation shifted everything. An older team member casually said, “Oh, I don’t really check my texts. If it’s important, I usually expect an email or a voicemail.”

It was like a lightbulb went off. The problem wasn’t them—it was me. I’d been forcing everyone into my preferred way of communicating, assuming it would work for everyone. My one-size-fits-all approach wasn’t just ineffective—it was alienating.

So, I made a change. From then on, I sent every update in three formats: text, email, and voicemail.

Here’s what happened:

  • The younger team members stayed loyal to texts, referencing them like clockwork.

  • The mid-career professionals engaged with emails, responding with thoughtful follow-ups.

  • The seasoned veterans? They finally felt included, thanking me for the voicemails and showing up better prepared than ever.

By simply adapting the delivery, I turned a communication breakdown into seamless engagement. It wasn’t about creating more content - it was about meeting people where they were.

Did you know that 77% of communication failures stem from not tailoring messages to the audience’s preferences?

Your audience, like my team, isn’t a monolith.

Some of them scroll Instagram while sipping their morning coffee, devouring bite-sized posts and quick visuals. Others live in their email inbox, looking for detailed case studies and in-depth analysis. Then there are those who prefer the energy and movement of YouTube or TikTok, where they can see ideas in action.

Now, imagine delivering the same content to all of them in the same way. The Instagram crowd skims right past your 1,000-word email. The email subscribers ignore your short Instagram caption. Your YouTube followers? They’re wondering why they can’t watch the story unfold.

Just like my team, your audience will only connect if you meet them on their terms. And here’s the good news: you don’t need to create more content. You just need to adapt the stories you already have to fit the unique strengths of each platform.

Here’s how to use my A.D.A.P.T. Framework to ensure your message resonates across platforms, without losing its impact:

  • Assess Your Channels
Where is your audience spending their time? Are they scrolling Instagram, diving into LinkedIn, or bingeing TikTok?

  • Define the Core Message
Ask yourself: What do you want your audience to know, feel, or do after engaging with your content?

  • Adjust for the Platform
Each platform has its own rhythm. Instagram thrives on short, striking visuals. Email gives you the space to tell the whole story. TikTok demands energy and brevity. Match your message to the medium.

  • Personalize the Tone
Speak their language. On LinkedIn, you might keep it polished and professional. On Instagram, lean into a more conversational tone.

  • Test and Refine
Pay attention to what resonates. Are Instagram stories outperforming your grid posts? Are emails getting higher open rates than clicks? Let the data guide your next move.

Why This Works

Adapting your message doesn’t just make it more effective - it shows your audience you value their preferences.

For my team, this shift wasn’t just about logistics - it built a connection. Suddenly, no one felt overlooked or misunderstood. And for me? I stopped feeling like I was shouting into a void.

The same principle applies to your digital business. One story can become an Instagram carousel, a LinkedIn post, an email, and a TikTok video - all without losing its essence. Instead of chasing your audience, you’re showing up exactly where they already are.

Here’s What You’ll Get Out of It

  • Maximized Reach: Speak to your audience wherever they are, whether it’s Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube.

  • Stronger Engagement: Tailored storytelling builds trust and connection.

  • Boosted Conversions: When your message fits the platform, action becomes inevitable.

"Your message isn’t failing because it’s wrong - it’s failing because it’s reaching the right ears… in the wrong way."

Your Turn:

Pick one piece of content you’ve created recently - this could be an article, a case study, an Instagram caption, or even a tweet. Then follow these steps:

  1. Break It Down: Identify the core message you want to convey. Write it out in one sentence.

  2. Map the Channels: List three platforms or formats you could use to share this message (e.g., email, Instagram carousel, TikTok video).

  3. Adapt the Message: For each platform, think about what works best. Ask yourself:

    • What visuals or text format fits this channel?

    • How much detail can the audience handle here?

    • What tone will resonate most?

  4. Create & Share: Repurpose the message for each format. Don’t just copy and paste - adjust for clarity, tone, and impact.

  5. Evaluate Results: Track how each version performs. Pay attention to engagement metrics like clicks, views, comments, or shares.

  6. Reflect: What worked best? What surprised you? Write down one insight you’ll use to improve your content strategy moving forward.

By meeting your audience where they are and delivering your message in the way they’re most likely to engage with, you’re not just adapting - you’re building trust, creating deeper connections, and ensuring your message resonates every time.
