It was the first day of my holiday break - a rare morning with no meetings or deadlines. Laying in bed, I decided to tackle my backlog of unread Substack posts, the ones I’d been “saving for later.”

One headline jumped out at me. It wasn’t just good - it was exactly what I’d been looking for to level up my business in 2025.

The article delivered everything I’d hoped for: actionable strategies that had me nodding and thinking, This is it. The creator had a paid offer in the PS, but before committing, I wanted to explore more of their free content.

This wasn’t my first rodeo. After spending over $50,000 on courses and mentorship programs, I’d learned the hard way to vet creators thoroughly before investing.

The other articles didn’t disappoint either. They were all just as incredible as the first one. But as much as I loved the content, I hit a familiar roadblock: my attention span.

No matter how good the written material is, inevitably, my mind will start to wander, forcing me to reread paragraphs and lose key points.

Despite the struggle, I decided to take the next step and sign up for the creator’s free 5-day email course, which was positioned as equivalent to a $4,000 high-ticket program, backed by what seemed liked hundreds of testimonials from people who’d gone through it. But part way into Day 1, my excitement gave way to the usual frustration.

I couldn’t even get through the first half before my mind started to wander.

That’s when I remembered Speechify, an app I’d bought years ago to turn text into audio. I hadn’t used it in ages, but I decided to give it a shot.

Speechify turned the email course into an audiobook I could listen to while moving around the house and running errands throughout the day. By the time I went to bed, I’d not only completed the email course, but also months’ worth of newsletters, courses, and challenges that had been sitting untouched in my digital archives.

Feeling inspired, I shared my experience on Substack Notes in real-time, as well as a few other platforms. To my surprise, the creator of the email course that sparked all of this commented almost immediately, expressing how helpful Speechify could be for his dyslexia.

Several other people reached out across the other platforms I’d posted the story on as well, saying they struggled with the some of the same issues and had no idea a tool like this existed.

One micro interaction led to 3 new Substack followers, 1 new newsletter subscriber, and a whole lot of people in my audience getting help with a real-life pain point of theirs.

Did you know that 85% of consumers’ decisions are influenced by micro-interactions?

In storytelling for business, it’s tempting to chase big stories - massive wins, dramatic transformations, or viral successes. But the truth? Some of the most impactful stories often start small.

Micro-interactions are the quiet moments that go unnoticed: a question in the comments, a reaction on a social post, or a piece of feedback on your offer you might have dismissed.

These interactions hold immense value because they reveal what your audience is thinking, feeling, or struggling with in real-time. They’re not abstract - they’re specific, personal, and deeply relatable.

When you document and expand on these micro-interactions, you create stories that feel tailor-made for your audience.

These aren’t just stories that connect - they’re stories that convert.

Here’s how to turn micro-interactions into actionable stories that convert using my M.I.C.R.O. System:

• M - Monitor Your Audience

Pay attention to questions, comments, and reactions across platforms. These are your audience’s pain points and aspirations in raw form.

• I - Investigate the Moment

Dig deeper into the interaction. What’s the context? Why did this moment resonate or stand out?

• C - Connect to a Larger Insight

Tie the micro-interaction to a broader theme or lesson that aligns with your brand message or offer.

• R - Reflect and Expand

Build the story out. Reflect on what it reveals about your audience and your ability to solve their challenges.

• O - Optimize for Impact

Share the story with a clear takeaway or action that leads back to your offer.

Why This Works

Big stories capture attention, but small stories taken from seemingly minor audience interactions build community.

When you pay attention to the micro-interactions surrounding your brand, you’re no longer trying to guess what your audience needs.

If I hadn’t shared my Speechify experience, I wouldn’t have uncovered a pain point so many people in my audience shared - connecting me directly with 4 new people on Substack… and indirectly with tons of people in my target audience.

Here’s What You’ll Get Out of It

When you turn micro-interactions into macro-stories, you’ll:

• Discover Hidden Opportunities: Spot overlooked insights that reveal exactly what your audience needs.

• Create Relatable Content: Build stories that feel personal and hyper-relevant, showing your audience you truly understand them.

• Deepen Audience Engagement: Transform small moments into powerful connections that build loyalty and drive conversions.

“Big wins are memorable, but small moments are magnetic.”

Your Turn

Take a moment to reflect on the micro-interactions in your business. Think beyond the obvious - what about the quick exchanges or offhand comments you might have overlooked? Here’s how to approach it:

1. Identify a Small Moment: Scan your email replies, social comments, or even conversations with clients. What question or comment stood out, even briefly?

2. Find the Deeper Story: What does this moment reveal about your audience’s needs or struggles? Is there a shared theme or hidden insight that ties it to a larger challenge?

3. Get Curious About Their Perspective: Imagine the problem from their point of view. Why might this moment have been significant to them? How could your experience help them feel seen or understood?

4. Turn the Spark into Actionable Content: Map out how this micro-interaction connects to your expertise. Could it inspire a helpful tip, a solution, or a new product idea?

And here’s an additional challenge for today:

Find of one overlooked micro-moments from the last 24 hours and turn it into a story by the end of the day.

Don’t overthink it.

Simply make it exist.

Then use the feedback to make it good later.
